In the world of KPOP, fans are not only interested in the music and performances of their favorite idols but also in getting to know them on a deeper level. One way that fans and celebrities alike have explored their personalities is through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). This popular personality assessment tool has gained widespread popularity in the KPOP community, with fans eagerly discussing and sharing their favorite idols’ MBTI types not only because fans are curious but Idols themselves often mention their personality types on various variety and non-variety shows.

Understanding MBTI

For those who don’t know or those who have little to no idea at all, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, developed by Katherine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, is a self-report questionnaire that categorizes individuals into one of sixteen different personality types based on their preferences in four key areas: extraversion/introversion (E/I), sensing/intuition (S/N), thinking/feeling (T/F), and judging/perceiving (J/P). Each of these preferences contributes to a unique combination of cognitive functions, resulting in different personality types.

The Popularity of Personality Tests in Korea

Koreans have long been fascinated with personality tests, and MBTI is just one of many that have gained popularity in the country. Before MBTI, Koreans often used blood types as a way to categorize individuals and analyze their personalities. While these categorizations were based on vague characteristics, they were still seen as a way to gain insight into one’s own personality and understand others better. MBTI has emerged as a more sophisticated and nuanced personality test, replacing the blood type analysis.

Koreans’ interest in personality tests reflects their curiosity about themselves and their desire to understand others. It is not uncommon for Koreans to use these tests as conversation starters or to gauge compatibility with others. While some may criticize the tendency to label and categorize individuals, it is important to recognize that Koreans are simply interested in self-discovery and building connections with others.

MBTI Types of KPOP Idols

Now, let’s delve into the MBTI types of some popular Korean celebrities. It’s always interesting to see how their personalities align with our perceptions of them and you might also find out which KPOP Idol contrasts or connects with your personality.

INTJ – The Architect

Some notable INTJs in the KPOP industry include G-Dragon, Ryujin from ITZY, and Eunhyuk from Super Junior. INTJs are known for their imaginative and strategic thinking. They often have a plan for everything and are driven by their goals and ambitions plus they are also competitive. If your idol or bias is an INTJ, you must take note that they see the world as a chessboard. They are also the most independent. Their motto includes “There is always room for improvement” and they despise small talk.

Other INTJs are: Minzy, Yangyang from WayV, Hoshi and Woozi from Seventeen, New or Changmin from The Boyz, Krystal Jung, and Jiheon from Fromis 9.

INTP – The Logician

And if you want to cop some ‘fits from our fave INFJs then worry no more cuz we got you!

INFP – The Mediator (also The Dreamer)

V from BTS, Jennie from Blackpink, and Joy from Red Velvet fall under the INFP category. INFPs are poetic and kind individuals who are always eager to help others. V’s “tata mic” expression is very INFP of him. Hyunjin from Straykids is also an INFP. They have a strong sense of justice and are deeply in tune with their emotions that’s why they enjoy performing noble service to aid society.
