Big City Minimalist & Professional Wear
Given our female protagonist’s attachment to the hustle and bustle of Seoul living, it’s easy to see why her earlier looks upon her arrival in Gongjin leaned more toward contemporary and minimalist. At first glance, village locals could easily single her out from the crowd with her clean, elegant, and professional aura. Her initial style also reflected her earlier attitude in the series, which was rather cold, intimidating, and assertive.
Her solid turtlenecks, straight-leg trousers, and collared blouses all give way to create a chic work getup, fitting for a former big city dentist. Ironically, Hye-Jin’s understated silver accessories will also let you know how she assembles a classy yet subtle appearance–not too prominent but not too lacking. Matched with a leather messenger bag, Gongjin’s dentist is ready to go!
And on the topic of her earlier rich looks, how could we even forget the pair of bejeweled heels that led Yoon Hye-Jin to Hong Du-Sik? Like Hye-Jin, you can also gift yourself a fancy pair of silver pumps to easily match your professional looks. If you’re like our protagonist who prefers silver or white accessories like pearls to spice up her look, then these shoes are your best bet for any ensemble. Spoiler alert: Perhaps even you can wear elegant heels like these on a very special day.
Quaint & Modest Village Femininity
As Yoon Hye-Jin gradually acclimated to the seaside life at Gongjin, she began to experiment with charming old-fashioned pieces that allowed her to resonate more with village living. Dainty features such as ruffles, ribbons, frills, laces, and embroideries were notable among her iconic Gongjin outfits. On the contrary, these quaint outfits have made her look more youthful and somehow softened her competitive persona.
Her mock neck and long-sleeved maxi dresses were definitely the epitome of modest rural fashion that emanated its original charm. Collared blouses with laced and/or frilled trims as well as long button-down dresses are also some of the humble staples we’ve seen Hye-Jin style. If you’re having trouble identifying vintage pieces, they usually come with large and flappy white collars–or at least any blouse or dress with a collar.
Again, you can rely on leather handbags, preferably brown for a vintage note, to finish off your quaint feminine looks like Hye-Jin’s. For footwear, classic leather pumps and preppy patent loafers are charming choices for an old-fashioned ensemble, fit for a lovely day out. Overall, these vintage fits are an essential Hometown Cha Cha Cha fashion that you can’t go wrong with.
Elegance with Ladylike Florals
We witnessed how the female lead became more lively and expressive in the series by eventually opting for charming floral prints for her outdoor ensembles. Embracing her femininity as a young professional lady, Hye-Jin soon relied on fresh and striking florals when it comes to her long-sleeved dresses and blouses.
From playing safe with solid neutral hues to finally being bold and experimenting with notable prints, Hye-Jin definitely became more positive and we’re all living for her wholesome character development. Depending on her mood, the female lead opted for subtle pastel florals for a softer appearance and chose large clear-cut flowers that contrasted with their base for bolder lady ensembles. While bigger floral patterns often carried a mature tone, we can’t deny that the character’s beauty and style remained just as youthful.
Soft, feminine, and delicate fabrics like silk and chiffon were seen among Hye-Jin’s floral pieces for a light and easy look. Ribbons, collars, and loose-fitting sleeves are also some notable elegant features of this classic style. If you’re wearing a floral blouse, it is best to pair it with a pair of solid-colored trousers in a neutral or matching color to attain a professional yet charming appearance.
Knitted Comfort Chic
Onto the side of her more laid-back and cozy attire, we’ve seen Gongjin’s dentist pull off a cute, youthful, and casual ensemble to fit the seaside’s cold and windy climate. Knitwear, in particular, was one of her clear favorites in terms of dressing casually but in style. Snuggly woven pieces like puff-sleeved shirts, sweaters, and buttoned cardigans were some of the quintessential items in Hye-Jin’s cop-worthy wardrobe.
In this phase of her village fashion game, we saw how she became more comfortable by simply wearing practical and cozy outfits. The moment she became free from her initial tendencies to look professional, elegant, and impressive at all times, Yoon Hye-Jin showed us more relatable yet still stylish looks for everyday wear. Needless to say, she started to “warm” to her surroundings (and even to Hong Du-Sik) as seen on her knitted pieces.
Despite her newfound easy disposition, though, our female lead still tends to spice up her casual knitwear by incorporating her favorite messenger bags and minimal shiny accessories. She also used her solid color knit tops to match her loose pants, and her cute flower-embroidered knit shirt to pair with her denim jeans for a teenage look. For foolproof comfort and chic throughout winter and spring, you can emulate Hye-Jin’s knitted looks.
BONUS: Casual Outer Flannels
Now that we’ve tackled pretty much everything about Yoon Hye-Jin, we think it’s just fair to give the limelight to our versatile handyman Chief Hong. While he may not be the most fashion-conscious individual throughout the series, his classic plaid looks deserve a feature on our style roster. Granted, his handsome appearance mainly contributed to his allure. However, Hong Du-Sik still showed us that even the casual flannels worn by men in rural villages can truly look charming.
We’ve seen Chief Hong sport open flannel or plaid button-downs, both long- and short-sleeved, over basic everyday tees as his typical work attire. Even when he’s out lending a hand to his neighbors, like the grandmothers of Gongjin, he still looks effortlessly fresh and charming with his laid-back outfits. Often matched with a pair of denim pants and his essential backpack (Yes, storing a vacuum flask for “cha”), his ensemble is already perfect for his everyday pursuits.
